Serial ATA iinterface technology is designed to efficiently provide high-speed data transfer for workstations, sub-entry servers and networked storage systems where cost is a primary concern. This technology is rapidly replacing the decade-old IDE interface.
Serial ATA technology also improves the system airflow by using much slimmer cabling, simplifying connection between the host controller and the data storage devices. Devices can be hot-swapped without shutting down or re-starting the system. The interconnects and cables are low cost and have built-in RAID support.
